(lower right), stencilled 'B43937 25.1lb TINS BRITISH ANTARCTIC SHIP NIMROD LYTTELTON LAND PARTY TEA 0.2.1' and with remains of wax customs seal on the reverse, with typed label 'AURORA AUSTRALIS. Original painting by George Marston on Venesta board. Painted in the Hut in the Antarctic in 1908 and re- produced in the 'Heart of the Antarctic'.'

Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2006 Christies in London held the auction Exploration and Travel with the Polar Sale Including The Amundsen Collection, which included the work Aurora Australis by George Edward Marston. It changed hands for a price of GBP 19,200.00 (€ 28,324.05) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Other works by George Edward Marston have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in September 2004 the work S.Y. Endurance Trapped In The Ice In The Weddell Sea was auctioned for GBP 33,460.00 (€ 48,746.99).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im September 2006 führte Christies in London die Auktion Exploration and Travel with the Polar Sale Including The Amundsen Collection durch, in der auch die Arbeit Aurora Australis von George Edward Marston zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 19.200,00 (€ 28.324,05) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 15.000,00 – 20.000,00. Andere Arbeiten von George Edward Marston konnten bereits höhere Auktionspreise erzielen, so wurde im September 2004 die Arbeit S.Y. Endurance Trapped In The Ice In The Weddell Sea für GBP 33.460,00 (€ 48.746,99) versteigert.
