Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Flight of Bonaparte from the Battle of Krasnoi by George Cruikshank was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 200.00 – 300.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 23.90 (€ 17.65). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Cruikshank achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Study for 'The Highland Whisky-Still' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 7,409.00 (€ 10,816.91).
