Auction result misses estimated price range
In September 2007 a collector was able to acquire the work A bird's nest with primulas, pansies and blossom on a mossy bank by George Clare for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,688.61). This price was achieved in the auction Victorian & Traditionalist Pictures at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Clare - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Strawberries, apples, plums, and grapes in a wicker basket, on a mossy bank, which sold at auction in May 2002 for GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,120.36).
