In May 2002 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Strawberries, apples, plums, and grapes in a wicker basket, on a mossy bank by George Clare. The price achieved of GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,120.36) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Strawberries, apples, plums, and grapes in a wicker basket, on a mossy bank is the most expensive artwork by George Clare that we have observed at auctions so far.
