This artwork by George Clare achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2007. In the Victorian & Traditionalist Pictures auction, the work A bird's nest and hawthorn blossom; and Plums and greengages sold for GBP 3,000.00 (€ 4,301.78) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Clare - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Strawberries, apples, plums, and grapes in a wicker basket, on a mossy bank, which sold at auction in May 2002 for GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,120.36).
