In March 2016 Christies in New York held the auction FIRST OPEN | Post-War and Contemporary Art, which included the work How Things Happen - A Fountain by Gary Stephan. The »bidding war« ended at USD 2,000.00 (€ 1,755.93), 67% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Gary Stephan; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Cuffs and Clubs sold at auction in October 2008 with the realized price of USD 2,500.00 (€ 1,971.30).
