Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Farmer With Stacks Of Grain And Laundry Woman: Two Paintings by Gary Ernest Smith was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 9,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,000.00 (€ 3,163.56). Admittedly, works by Gary Ernest Smith have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Cabbage Field Harvest in October 2018 with an auction result of USD 22,500.00 (€ 19,855.28).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Farmer With Stacks Of Grain And Laundry Woman: Two Paintings von Gary Ernest Smith im März 2008 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 6.000,00 – 9.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 5.000,00 (€ 3.163,56) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Gary Ernest Smith auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Cabbage Field Harvest im Oktober 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 22.500,00 (€ 19.855,28).
