Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Probably The Reverend John Livingston by Frans Hals was sold in the Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture auction at Sothebys in New York in February 2013. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 300,000.00 – 500,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 338,500.00 (€ 258,811.84) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frans Hals achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a gentleman, aged 37; and Portrait of a lady, aged 36 in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 10,021,250.00 (€ 11,164,561.26).
