The work Portrait of a gentleman, aged 37; and Portrait of a lady, aged 36 by Frans Hals was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2018. The price achieved of GBP 10,021,250.00 (€ 11,164,561.26) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000,000.00 – 12,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of a gentleman, aged 37; and Portrait of a lady, aged 36 is the most expensive artwork by Frans Hals that we have observed at auctions so far.
