Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Pair of Snipe by Frank Weston Benson was auctioned at Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts in September last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 300.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 956.25 (€ 977.46). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frank Weston Benson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Reader in November 2016 with an auction result of USD 2,887,500.00 (€ 2,729,722.06).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Pair of Snipe von Frank Weston Benson im September letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 300,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 956,25 (€ 977,46) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Frank Weston Benson erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Reader im November 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.887.500,00 (€ 2.729.722,06).
