Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A pair of miniatures depicting a young gentleman and lady; he, in black coat, white shirt and pink bowtie; foliate and sky background; and she, in low-cut white silk dress with pleated bodice and bow at shoulder, fur-bordered blue velvet cloak draped by François Meuret was sold in the IMPORTANT GOLD BOXES,OBJECTS OF VERTU & PORTRAIT MINIATURES auction at Christies in London in May 2004. The price achieved of GBP 2,629.00 (€ 3,944.47) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by François Meuret - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Robert Arthur De Acres, Marquis De L'Aigle (1843-1931), which sold at auction in May 2020 for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,182.56).
