The »bidding war« ended at USD 17,500.00 (€ 12,095.66), 17% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Hopkinson Smith - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Scene in Venice, which sold at auction in May 2007 for USD 45,000.00 (€ 33,449.79).
