Sold at the lower estimate price
In October 2015 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work Market In Seville by Francis Hopkinson Smith. The result of USD 3,000.00 (€ 2,716.90) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Hopkinson Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Scene in Venice in May 2007 with an auction result of USD 45,000.00 (€ 33,449.79).
