Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2008 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work The three-masted merchantman Ann Black in two positions off the South Foreland, inbound for London, with Dover Castle off her stern by Francis Holman. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 14,339.71) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Holman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of Blackwell Yard from the Thames in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 137,500.00 (€ 153,187.19).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober 2008 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit The three-masted merchantman Ann Black in two positions off the South Foreland, inbound for London, with Dover Castle off her stern von Francis Holman zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 11.250,00 (€ 14.339,71) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Francis Holman erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A view of Blackwell Yard from the Thames im Dezember 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 137.500,00 (€ 153.187,19).
