Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A stingray, soles, herrings and other fish with a bowl of mussels and a copper pot, all on a wooden table by Floris van Schooten was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in November 2012. The price achieved of EUR 3,750.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Floris van Schooten achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pewter plates with opened oysters, two mackerel, a bun, oyster shells, a bag of tobacco, matches, a white clay pipe, a berkemeier of white wine, a red earthenware brazier with embers and a pewter oval tobacco tin on a wooden table in May 2004 with an auction result of EUR 162,250.00.
