EWALD MATARÉ (1887-1965) Three prints by the artist Including: Vier Pferde auf der Weide (Four Horses in the Pasture) , woodcut in black and red, on Schoeller paper, 1935, signed and titled in brown colored pencil, from the edition of eight, published for the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Germany, 1951; Pferde auf der Weide (Fünf, eigentlich sieben Pferde) , woodcut in black and brown, on laid paper, circa 1935, signed in pencil, numbered 121/250, published by Kestner-Gesellschaft, Hanover, Germany, 1953, with their ink stamp on the reverse; Drei Gefiederte , woodcut in black and red, on laid paper, 1963, signed and titled in brown colored pencil, presumably a proof aside from the edition of 50 Largest Sheet: 20 3 ⁄ 8 x 31 in. (518 x 787 mm.)

The work Three prints by the artist by Ewald Mataré was auctioned at Christies in New York in April this year. It achieved a price of USD 8,190.00 (€ 7,418.48), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 64%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ewald Mataré achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Eule in December 2011 with an auction result of EUR 183,000.00.

Die Arbeit Three prints by the artist von Ewald Mataré kam im April diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 8.190,00 (€ 7.418,48) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 64%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ewald Mataré erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Eule im Dezember 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 183.000,00.
