Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2000 Christies in London held the auction British Pictures 1500-1850, which included the work Portrait of Robert D'Arcy, 3rd Earl of Holdernesse (1681-1721), full-length, in Peer's robes, his coronet beside him, in an interior by Enoch Seeman. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,287.50 (€ 8,422.94) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Enoch Seeman have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of A Gentleman In Moroccan Dress, Probably John Montagu, 2Nd Duke Of Montagu (1690-1749) in December 2015 with an auction result of GBP 43,750.00 (€ 59,410.40).
