Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of Katherine Watson Southwell (D. 1765) Holding A Book, Three-Quarter-Length, Before A Landscape by Enoch Seeman was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 7,500.00 (€ 6,234.41). Admittedly, works by Enoch Seeman have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of A Gentleman In Moroccan Dress, Probably John Montagu, 2Nd Duke Of Montagu (1690-1749) in December 2015 with an auction result of GBP 43,750.00 (€ 59,410.40).
