Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Grapes by Empress Dowager Cixi was worth HKD 756,000.00 (€ 89,753.42) to a buyer in May last year. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 200,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Empress Dowager Cixi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Lotus, Root and Seed, which sold at auction in May 2013 for HKD 3,150,000.00 (€ 312,380.66).

Die Arbeit Grapes von Empress Dowager Cixi war einem Käufer im Mai letzten Jahres HKD 756.000,00 (€ 89.753,42) wert. Dieser Preise wurde in der Auktion Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy bei Christies in Hong Kong erzielt und übertraf den zuvor angesetzten oberen Schätzpreis von HKD 200.000,00 um ein Vielfaches. Für andere Arbeiten von Empress Dowager Cixi mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Lotus, Root and Seed beobachtet, die im Mai 2013 für HKD 3.150.000,00 (€ 312.380,66) versteigert wurde.
