Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Fourteen Hyacinth Heads by Eliot Hodgkin was auctioned at Christies in London in October last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 10,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 32,760.00 (€ 38,165.04). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Eliot Hodgkin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Violets II, which sold at auction in September 2000 for GBP 51,700.00 (€ 86,509.89).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Fourteen Hyacinth Heads von Eliot Hodgkin im Oktober letzten Jahres bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 10.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 32.760,00 (€ 38.165,04) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Eliot Hodgkin mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Violets II beobachtet, die im September 2000 für GBP 51.700,00 (€ 86.509,89) versteigert wurde.
