EL ANATSUI (B. 1944) Rare crowd series no7 incised with the artist's initials and dated 'EL 93' (to the lower edge of the twelfth element); titled 'Rare crowd series no7' (on the reverse of the first element) and consecutively numbered '1-15' (on the reverse) oil on carved wood, in fifteen parts overall: 21 1 ⁄ 8 x 59in. (53.5 x 149.8cm.) Executed in 1993
Auction result well in line with expectations
In July this year Christies in Paris held the auction First Open: Post-War and Contemporary Art Online, which included the work Rare crowd series no7 by El Anatsui. The price achieved of GBP 22,680.00 (€ 26,460.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by El Anatsui achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Prophet in May this year with an auction result of USD 2,228,000.00 (€ 2,091,233.34).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juli diesen Jahres führte Christies in Paris die Auktion First Open: Post-War and Contemporary Art Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Rare crowd series no7 von El Anatsui zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 22.680,00 (€ 26.460,69) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von El Anatsui erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Prophet im Mai diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.228.000,00 (€ 2.091.233,34).
