This artwork by El Anatsui achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May this year. In the 21st Century Evening Sale auction, the work Prophet sold for USD 2,228,000.00 (€ 2,091,233.34) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,200,000.00. This high result makes Prophet the most expensive artwork by El Anatsui that we have observed at auctions so far.
