Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The upper floor of Rembrandt's father's mill, Koukerk by Edward William Cooke was auctioned at Bonhams in London in March last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 6,375.00 (€ 7,558.28). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward William Cooke achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bella Venezia in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 209,600.00 (€ 311,262.56).
