Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Salisbury Cathedral by Edward Dayes was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,227.91). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward Dayes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Triumph of Beauty in December 2010 with an auction result of GBP 109,250.00 (€ 126,729.67).
