Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2016 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art, which included the work Phoebus dath nan tonn (The sun colouring the waves) by Duncan MacGregor Whyte. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,630.62) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Duncan MacGregor Whyte have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Beach at Perth in November 2019 with an auction result of AUD 12,200.00 (€ 11,071.79).
