Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2007 Christies in London held the auction Travel & Natural History, which included the work The Snowdrop; and Thou divine Linnaeus, by W.Ward and T.Burke by Robert John Thornton. The price achieved of GBP 720.00 (€ 1,059.53) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 600.00 – 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert John Thornton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Temple of Flora: six plates in January 2011 with an auction result of USD 16,250.00 (€ 11,848.34).
