This price was achieved in the auction Travel, Science and Natural History at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Robert John Thornton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Temple of Flora: six plates sold at auction in January 2011 with the realized price of USD 16,250.00 (€ 11,848.34).
