Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Style Variation 4 by Derrick Adams was auctioned at Phillips in New York in March this year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 70,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 215,900.00 (€ 198,583.52). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Derrick Adams; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Figure In The Urban Landscape 31 sold at auction in March 2021 with the realized price of USD 250,000.00 (€ 212,892.79).
