In July 2019 Christies in London held the auction Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna, which included the work Study for 'John Knox dispensing the sacrament at Calder House', drawn on the back of the artist's list of Royal Academy Submissions 1839, leading with 'Sir David Baird drawing the body of Tippo Saib after his capture at Seringa Patam on 4th of May 1799' by David Wilkie. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,195.87), 33% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Wilkie achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Spanish Girl in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 363,650.00 (€ 522,024.96).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 33 % übertroffen
Im Juli 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna durch, in der auch die Arbeit Study for 'John Knox dispensing the sacrament at Calder House', drawn on the back of the artist's list of Royal Academy Submissions 1839, leading with 'Sir David Baird drawing the body of Tippo Saib after his capture at Seringa Patam on 4th of May 1799' von David Wilkie zur Versteigerung kam.
