This artwork by David Johnson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January last year. In the 19th Century American Art auction, the work Mount Lafayette from Franconia, New Hampshire sold for USD 350,000.00 (€ 312,165.54) - well above the upper estimate of USD 150,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by David Johnson; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot View From New Windsor, Hudson River sold at auction in May 2012 with the realized price of USD 722,500.00 (€ 584,357.81).
