In March 2017 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art, which included the work A ground sea by David James. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 32,500.00 (€ 38,086.79), 30% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by David James - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Cornish Rollers, which sold at auction in December 2017 for GBP 75,000.00 (€ 84,401.51).
