A top price for Cornelis van Cuylenburgh II - as previously expected
In December 2010 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction European Noble and Private Collections incl. Fine Paintings, which included the work Portrait of Simon de Jongh van Son (1758-1844), half-length, in a black costume with a white jabot, seated in his library; and Portrait of Charlotte Hahn, half-length, in a silver and black dress with lace collar and cuffs and a feathered hat by Cornelis van Cuylenburgh II. The price achieved of EUR 5,000.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of Simon de Jongh van Son (1758-1844), half-length, in a black costume with a white jabot, seated in his library; and Portrait of Charlotte Hahn, half-length, in a silver and black dress with lace collar and cuffs and a feathered hat is the most expensive artwork by Cornelis van Cuylenburgh II that we have observed at auctions so far.
