Sold at the upper estimate price
The work A Chestnut Hunter and his Groom in a Landscape by Charles Towne was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings auction at Christies in New York in April 2012. The auction ended at the price of USD 10,000.00 (€ 7,559.15), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of USD 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Towne achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A bay hunter and three pointers in a landscape with Lyston Hall beyond in June 2002 with an auction result of GBP 138,650.00 (€ 214,460.15).
