In the Important Portrait Miniatures including works from the auction, the work Commander James Oswald, facing right in gold-edged blue coat and white waistcoat with gilt buttons, pleated jabot, powdered short hair and sidewhiskers; sky background sold for GBP 2,820.00 (€ 4,487.51) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Charles Shirreff; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A young lady called Miss Caroline [..., facing right in lace-bordered white dress with blue detail at right shoulder, white stole draped around her neck, tied blue ribbon in her long powdered curling hair|AID902686] sold at auction in December 2002 with the realized price of GBP 5,019.00 (€ 7,704.42).
