Oval, 61 mm. high, gilt-metal frame, the glazed reverse set with ochre silk panel, and with identifying inscription of the sitter

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work William, 3rd Viscount Courtenay, later 9th Earl of Devon (1768-1835), in blue coat and lace cravat by Charles Shirreff was auctioned at Christies in June 2021. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 1,375.00 (€ 1,602.23). Admittedly, works by Charles Shirreff have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A young lady called Miss Caroline [..., facing right in lace-bordered white dress with blue detail at right shoulder, white stole draped around her neck, tied blue ribbon in her long powdered curling hair|AID902686] in December 2002 with an auction result of GBP 5,019.00 (€ 7,704.42).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit William, 3rd Viscount Courtenay, later 9th Earl of Devon (1768-1835), in blue coat and lace cravat von Charles Shirreff kam im Juni 2021 bei Christies zur Auktion. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 1.200,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 1.375,00 (€ 1.602,23) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Charles Shirreff auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A young lady called Miss Caroline [..., facing right in lace-bordered white dress with blue detail at right shoulder, white stole draped around her neck, tied blue ribbon in her long powdered curling hair|AID902686] im Dezember 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.019,00 (€ 7.704,42).
