Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Portrait of a gentleman, said to be Lt. Col. Charles Richard Fox (1796-1873), three-quarter length, seated, in uniform by Charles Landseer was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Christies in New York in October 2001. It changed hands for a price of USD 7,637.50 (€ 8,492.72) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Landseer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Return of the Dove to the Ark in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 133,150.00 (€ 194,394.80).

Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, said to be Lt. Col. Charles Richard Fox (1796-1873), three-quarter length, seated, in uniform von Charles Landseer wurde im Oktober 2001 in der Auktion Old Master Paintings bei Christies in New York versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 7.637,50 (€ 8.492,72) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Charles Landseer erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Return of the Dove to the Ark im Februar 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 133.150,00 (€ 194.394,80).
