Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by But Mochtar achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in November 2018. In the Asian 20th Century Art (Day Sale) Including a Selection of Japanese Woodblock Prints from Private Collections auction, the work without title sold for HKD 250,000.00 (€ 28,216.90) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 100,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by But Mochtar achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Patung Elemen Estetik (Study Of Esthetic Principles) in April 2014 with an auction result of HKD 3,640,000.00 (€ 338,543.62).
