Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Two Geishas by But Mochtar was sold in the Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Art Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in Hong Kong in July 2020. The price achieved of HKD 812,500.00 (€ 89,020.30) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as HKD 650,000.00 – 950,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by But Mochtar - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Patung Elemen Estetik (Study Of Esthetic Principles) , which sold at auction in April 2014 for HKD 3,640,000.00 (€ 338,543.62).
