Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The two protagonists Britannia and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes with Sir Thomas Lipton's steam yacht Erin lying off to starboard by Brian J. Jones was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,539.87). Admittedly, works by Brian J. Jones have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Storming the Cowes Roads, 1930: Astra leading with Westward, Candida, Britannia and Lulworth behind in October 2008 with an auction result of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 13,543.06).
