This artwork by Bikash Bhattacharjee achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March last year. In the South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art Including Works from the Collection of Mahinder and Sharad Tak auction, the work Untitled (Red Balloon) sold for USD 126,000.00 (€ 113,585.14) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Bikash Bhattacharjee; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Red Balloon sold at auction in May 2007 with the realized price of GBP 102,000.00 (€ 150,099.90).
