Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
When the work Manila Gentleman 1900 by Benedicto Reyes Cabrera was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2015, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 120,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than five times as high at HKD 687,500.00 (€ 79,454.85). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Benedicto Reyes Cabrera - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Untitled (Sabel), which sold at auction in October 2020 for HKD 2,772,000.00 (€ 307,021.55).
Kunstwerk zum Fünffachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Manila Gentleman 1900 von Benedicto Reyes Cabrera im April 2015 bei Sothebys in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 120.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 687.500,00 (€ 79.454,85) mehr als fünfmal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Benedicto Reyes Cabrera mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Untitled (Sabel) beobachtet, die im Oktober 2020 für HKD 2.772.000,00 (€ 307.021,55) versteigert wurde.
