It achieved a price of USD 8,634,000.00 (€ 8,363,847.72), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 73%. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Barbara Hepworth; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Family of Man: Ancestor II sold at auction in November this year with the realized price of USD 11,565,000.00 (€ 10,602,310.23).

Die Arbeit Elegy III von Barbara Hepworth kam im November letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 8.634.000,00 (€ 8.363.847,72) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 73%. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Barbara Hepworth; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit The Family of Man: Ancestor II im November diesen Jahres mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 11.565.000,00 (€ 10.602.310,23).
