Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Portrait Of A Man In A Trench Coat by Baldur Helgason was worth HKD 604,800.00 (€ 64,753.32) to a buyer in April 2021. This price was achieved in the auction Contemporary Art Day Sale at Sothebys in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 150,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Baldur Helgason; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Man Interrupted by an Ostrich in the Pink Room sold at auction in March last year with the realized price of HKD 756,000.00 (€ 87,028.94).
