Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2016 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art, which included the work Racing schooners rounding the turning mark in Osborne Bay with Norris Castle above and Ryde beyond: The Prince of Wales's Hildegarde rounding the mark in second place by Arthur Wellington Fowles. The price achieved of GBP 9,375.00 (€ 11,139.53) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Arthur Wellington Fowles - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Indian troopship Serapis arriving at Portsmouth, 11 May 1876, with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales aboard her on his return from India, and the Royal yacht Osborne following her in, which sold at auction in November 2000 for GBP 22,325.00 (€ 36,489.33).
The Indian troopship Serapis arriving at Portsmouth, 11 May 1876, with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales aboard her on his return from India, and the Royal yacht Osborne following her in beobachtet, d
