This artwork by Arthur Wellington Fowles achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in April this year. In the The Marine Sale auction, the work The lighthouse and the Needles off the Isle of Wight sold for GBP 4,080.00 (€ 4,649.87) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,800.00. Admittedly, works by Arthur Wellington Fowles have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Indian troopship Serapis arriving at Portsmouth, 11 May 1876, with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales aboard her on his return from India, and the Royal yacht Osborne following her in in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 22,325.00 (€ 36,489.33).
