Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Oklahoma, c. 1939 by Arthur Rothstein was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 937.50 (€ 722.65). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Arthur Rothstein achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Farmer and sons walking in the face of a dust storm, Cimarron County, Oklahoma in April 2001 with an auction result of USD 23,500.00 (€ 26,481.86).
