Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Couple Kissing, Subway, Nyc, 1949 by Arthur Leipzig was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,125.00 (€ 965.91). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Arthur Leipzig achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Subway Lovers, 1949 in October 2007 with an auction result of USD 21,250.00 (€ 14,687.59).
