Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2008 Christies in New York held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work The steam yacht Thistle in the bay of Naples by Antonio de Simone. The price achieved of USD 2,500.00 (€ 1,796.11) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Antonio de Simone - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Royal Thames Yacht Club schooner Marchesa: In Neapolitan waters (illustrated); and In heavy weather, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 4,780.00 (€ 7,171.76).
