In November 2000 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction TWENTIETH CENTURY ART, which included the work A still life with a pineapple, a bottle, a pear and a pipe on a table by Anton Martineau. The price achieved of NLG 4,095.70 (€ 1,918.77) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as NLG 3,500.00 – 4,500.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, A still life with a pineapple, a bottle, a pear and a pipe on a table is the most expensive artwork by Anton Martineau that we have observed at auctions so far.
