Auction result well in line with expectations
The work 'Achrosticum Simplex, Jamaica' by Anna Atkins was sold in the Photographs auction at Sothebys in New York in March 2009. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 10,625.00 (€ 8,012.22) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Anna Atkins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Photographs of British Algæ. Cyanotype Impressions., Robert Hunt's copy in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 229,250.00 (€ 343,959.44).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit 'Achrosticum Simplex, Jamaica' von Anna Atkins wurde im März 2009 in der Auktion Photographs bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 10.625,00 (€ 8.012,22) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Anna Atkins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Photographs of British Algæ. Cyanotype Impressions., Robert Hunt's copy im Mai 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 229.250,00 (€ 343.959,44).
